Mastodon – Crack the Skye
Niyaz Pirani and Clint Keaton on the digital ones and twos, providing you with music reviews and news!
This week we celebrate the 10th anniversary of the release of Mastodon’s Crack the Skye.
Fire, Water, and Earth. Mastodon has addressed almost all of the classic elements in their concept albums (air being the exception), but there is one mystic element that serves as the basis for Crack the Skye: aether.
We discuss the spiritual, ethereal textures of epic tracks such as “The Czar” and Niyaz’s personal favorite, “The Last Baron”, to the otherworldly tones of Clint’s favorite, “Ghosts of Karelia.”
We take you on Mastodon’s wild ride from paraplegic wormhole travellers, to the mysterious Russian mystic Rasputin, to the tragedy of drummer/singer Brann Dailor’s sister, Skye’s passing.
We Pod Sonically is weekly podcast where we retrospectively review one record per show, as well as provide our listeners with current and trending news in the music industry.
